Dr. Laura McAtackney and Dr. Brian Hanley to discuss the controversies surrounding the Decade of Centenaries December 23, 2020

The Irish History Show had a very good episode recently with Brian Hanley & Laura McAtackney discussing the Decade of Centenaries, Brian Stanley and Kilmichael and lots of other stuff.
Well worth a listen, and it alters some pre onceptions.
It shows the dangers of using the term revisionism as shorthand for “ books I don’t like” or “ books whose authors I don’t like”

Ironically the so-called ‘revisionists’ flit between academic personas and public history personas (and standards) as it suits them, in a manner quite strikingly reminiscent of climate change denialism.

Very good podcast. I think Hanley makes some very good points about social media use in general. Bottom line, think about if you would take a particular tone talking face to face. I think one of the things I’ve loved the most about the CLR over the years is the level of civility.
Also enjoyed his points about levels of contradiction in belief systems and/or being conflicted about things as perfectly natural.

Social media is very much playing to a crowd, unfortunately. And designed to reward the worat impulses.
