It seems that Conor McCabe stands alone. Would there be any hope do you think of people at least staying away till Joan Burton’s spiel is done?

It is an utter disgrace and if I were in Dublin I would be outside the conference with a plackard.

I think the invitation to Burton reflects the pro-LP affiliations of a number of those running the ILHS and let’s not forget the influence of Pat Carroll.

I am of course for a boycott. But the ILHS was fairly broad church. Lysaght for the Trotskyists, lots of people close to the CP and LP people. This invit. is a mistake. Probably not political but more about getting some money for the millstone building they have in the barracks.

Who has opened these conferences in the past?

@Bob Smiles. Usually nobody, to the best of my recollection. Last year, Eamon Gilmore opened it, probably because 100 years of Labour Party was the conference theme. Why Burton this year? I can’t figure that one out!
